This Advent season, the New City Kids Elementary and Club 56 students will be journaling together in an Advent devotional created just for them!  The devotional is organized into a weekly format and contains scripture passages, discussion questions, fill in the blanks, poems and coloring pages.

The devotionals will remain in the classrooms until December 29th, the final Sunday of Advent. The kids will be welcome to take them home after that.  However, we would like to make one journal available per family at the onset of Advent to encourage you to discuss the sermon topics together at home throughout the season.  Please pick one up from the Children’s Check-In podium at your convenience beginning Sunday, December 1.

The content of the devotional is written to follow along with the Sunday morning Advent sermon series “The Hope & Fears Of All The Years.” (more info on the sermon series coming soon!) During class, the children will read through the scripture passage printed in the devotional and will walk through a few discussion questions related to the passage.  The lead teachers will continue to teach the regularly scheduled Gospel Project curriculum throughout the winter quarter; the Advent devotional is simply meant to be a festive supplement to emphasize the meaning of the birth of the Christ Child.

The devotional is intentionally written to bring both adults and children together this Advent season.  As an entire church body, we will learn about the many important roles of Baby Jesus as He grew up to be the perfect Prophet, Priest, King and Sacrifice for His people.  Finally, we will complete the Advent season by learning that we can find complete Rest in knowing Jesus as our personal Savior and Friend.

We hope adults and children alike enjoy encountering Jesus this Advent season as a family at home, in the classroom, during Sunday morning worship, and together with the larger body of believers at New City!
