Life Together
To the church of God that is in Corinth… (1 Corinthians 1.2) This is one of the most remarkable statements in all the New Testament. On the one hand, given the culture of ancient Corinth, it was a miracle there was a church there at all. If God can plant a church in Corinth, then truly he can plant one anywhere. But it’s also a remarkable statement, because Paul still refers to them as a church. As you’ll see as we work our way through the letter, this church was an absolute mess. And yet, Paul sees evidence of grace in their lives. He calls them brothers and sisters. 1 Corinthians is written to a deeply flawed and deeply loved community. Over the next year at New City we’re going to let God speak to us through this letter. We too are a deeply flawed and yet deeply loved community. This fall we’re going to be work through chapters 1-10, thinking through what it means for the gospel to shape our life together. We hope you’ll join us, and invite some friends!
