Getting Ready for Sunday 11/13/11

crowd in worship

There is something special about the people of God coming together for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Thus, we hope Sundays at New City are a highlight of your week. In an effort to help you get more out of it, we're posting a short preview of this Sunday's gathering.

This Sunday is week 2 in our series When the Locusts Come (click here for past sermons and study guides). This week we look at "Disasters and God's Grace" from Joel 2:18-27. Read through the text as you get ready for worship.

Songs this week include:

  • Holy is the Lord - (listen). A song about the character of God based on Isaiah 6:3.
  • In Feast or Fallow - (listen). A song of lament over a broken world, and a confession of hope in Jesus Christ. Written by Sandra McCracken, in part, after the earthquakes in Haiti.
  • In the Cross of Christ - (listen). A favorite at New City - written by John Bowring (1792-1872); new music by Alex Mejias in 2009.
  • God the Spirit - (listen). We need more good songs like this about the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
  • God of Love, King of Peace - (listen).  A prayer for God to bring the fullness of the kingdom. "Remember not our sin's dark stain; Give peace, O God, give peace again."
  • O Love That Will Not Let Me Go - (listen). You should listen to Kevin Twit tell the great story behind this song.
