Getting Ready for Sunday (May 8, 2011)

There is something special about the people of God coming together for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Thus, we hope that Sundays at New City are a highlight of your week. In an effort to help you get more out of it, we're posting a short preview of the upcoming Sunday gathering.

Before you head out to church this Sunday, make sure you call your mom and wish her a happy Mother's Day!

We're starting a new teaching series this week called "Origins." We'll be walking through the first eleven chapters of Genesis, using this as a framework for understanding who we are, who God is, what's wrong with the world, and how it can be fixed. Josh will be giving a bird's eye look at the series this week, and then honing in on Genesis 1:1-3.

Our gathering will begin as we call each other to worship and affirm our need to be in God's presence, singing I Need Thee Today. We'll then tell the story of God's salvation, using the words of the Nicene Creed. We'll turn our attention to praising God as our Creator, and the most valuable being in the universe by singing All Creatures of Our God and King and Fairest Lord Jesus.

It's a membership Sunday this week. It will be the first time that new members will come forward and take vows during worship before the whole congregation. We trust this will be an encouraging time, acting as a tangible reminder that God is growing his church, and also the beauty and importance of being committed to a body of believers. If you are interested in joining New City, click here and find out more about the process.

Additionally, there will be time for prayer in our gathering, and we'll sing Praise My Soul the King of Heaven, You Are the Light, and a new song called Death to Life (listen here; view lyrics). Please be in prayer for the all the elements of the worship gathering as well as all those involved. And invite a friend to come to church with you.
