Preparing for Worship (10/24/10)

Corporate worship is a great thing.  Of course, we can worship God on our own and with our families - and we should.  But there is something special about the people of God coming together for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25).  Thus, we hope that corporate worship is the highlight of your week.  In an effort to help you get more out of worship, we're posting a short preview of the upcoming worship service each week.  Hopefully you'll find this helpful and encouraging.

This week in worship we get to hear a brief report from Barry Schutter, a missionary working with World Harvest Mission in London.  Barry, and his wife Amy, work with a church plant (New Life Masih Ghar) which ministers mainly to South Asians living in London.  Barry will be sharing a bit during the worship service, but anyone interested in hearing more about his ministry is invited to lunch at Izzy's after the service.

The teaching this week will be based on Mark 13:1-37.  This passage is difficult to understand as Jesus seems to be talking about two things simultaneously - the destruction of the Temple, and the end of the world.  In preparation for worship, read through the text and list everything you think might be referring to the destruction of the temple, and everything that might be referring to the end of the world.  Additionally, note that the passage begins with the request of the disciples for a sign, and ends with Jesus calling them watchfulness and faithfulness.  What kinds of applications might be in this for your own life?
