Preparing for Worship (01/23/11)
Corporate worship is a great thing. Of course, we can worship God on our own and with our families - and we should. But there is something special about the people of God coming together for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). Thus, we hope that corporate worship is the highlight of your week. In an effort to help you get more out of it, we're posting a short preview of the upcoming worship service each week.
This is week three in our series called "Rooted." In this series we are walking through the Apostles' Creed, examining Biblical texts that relate to the parts of the Creed. On Sunday we'll be talking about what it means to say "I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord." To prepare for worship, take a look at Hebrews 1:1-13. Jot down all the things you learn about Jesus from this passage. Pause, and worship Jesus who is supreme over all things.
As part of our worship this week, we'll pray The Lord's Prayer together. We'll pause as we come to the part of the prayer that says "forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors." You can use that time to silently confess your sin to the Lord, asking for forgiveness. And you can also take stock of whether you need to forgive anyone who may have sinned against you.
Our music will focus in on the person of Jesus Christ this week. Songs include: Jesus, Everlasting King; Faithful One; To Christ the Lord; Jesus, the Lord, My Savior Is; In the Cross of Christ. We'll also be doing a new song called God the Father's Only Son. You can download the whole album this song is on for free here.
