Good news for Parker Elementary School
A cadre of community volunteers including many from our own New City helped out with Super Saturdays at JP Parker School in April. Some of you tutored, others greeted or prepared and served meals, and most importantly many of you prayed for academic success for the children of JPP. We can all give thanks that our efforts bore fruit. It was a joy to receive the following news from Linda Stover who is a coordinater for Whiz Kids at JP Parker. Whiz Kids is a city wide Christian tutoring mentoring program administered by City Gospel Mission. Look for upcoming news about how you can participate in the upcoming school year's Whiz Kids program.
From Linda Stover:
Hi to all and Happy Summer...I've just returned from a meeting with all the Support Providers @ Parker School. I'm thankful to be our Whiz Kids rep at these meetings... It's difficult not to be "too proud" of the "good stuff" that Whiz Kids does @ Parker. Truly, to God be the Glory!!!!
Here's the GOOD NEWS.... *Parker is now rated "Continuous Improvement" (not "academic watch" - the previous rating). There is a slight chance that once all the numbers are in, Parker may even be rated "effective." The students' proficiency in overall academics went from 31% - 74%!!!! Two of Ms. Knox's emphases will be on coordinating services (rather than services bumping into each other like happened this year) and helping with parent involvement! There now is such a positive attitude at the school...
Good things are happening!!! God is at work! Be refreshed and refueled during these months. As always keep Parker School, Ms. Mack (the principal), the students, and our Whiz Kids leaders, tutors, and the program in your prayers. We'll be ready to go for our 7th year @ Parker this fall!!! Prayers for all, Linda
