Living in the Gap: Winter Sermon Series
How do you feel when there seems to be a huge gap between what God has promised, and what you are experiencing at the moment?

Join us for our Christmas Eve service. We'll meet at 5:30pm in the building of Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship (4229 Brownway Ave, 45209) for a service of Lessons and Carols.
Just wanted to give you an update on all that is happening in the Advent season here at New City. If you were at our gathering last Sunday, you know we closed out the series on Joel and kicked off the Advent season with Advent candles, readings and carols. More of the same to come during worship over the next few weeks. But here are a few things we wanted to draw your attention to.
A couple of local teachers have teamed up to write and illustrate a children's picture book that tells a true story of a local adoption and features some of the major traditional Cincinnati Christmas traditions. This Saturday morning, on National Adoption Day, Nadine Woodard Huffman (the author) and Marilyn M. Lebhar (the illustrator) will be reading and signing their book, A Cincinnati Night Before Christmas, at The Blue Manatee Children's Bookstore and Cafe in Oakley.

When disaster strikes, your perception of God is at risk. Unexpected illness or death, national disaster, personal loss, financial collapse, plague or epidemic - these things have a way of turning people who haven't thought about God in years into instant theologians. "God is gone... God has it out for me... God's paying me back for something I did a long time ago... God's not powerful enough to help."
Starting this Friday 10/28, men from New City will be gathering for Bible Study and prayer on Friday mornings from 6:30-7:30am at the Panera in Hyde Park Plaza. Okay, it's early. But they'll be plenty of coffee, and it's good for your soul to spend time talking and praying with other guys.

On December 3, New City is teaming up with New Life Temple, a long-established church in Madisonville, to provide a Christmas Store for 10-15 need-qualified families in the community. It's not a giveaway. Parents pre-pay $7 per child for the opportunity to shop and select one age-appropriate clothing item and one toy/game for each child. These items will be provided by volunteers who commit to buy them ahead of time to stock the Christmas store. The store will be set up so that parents have options in choosing presents, and then get to wrap their presents before they leave. It's thrilling to be able to aid parents and grandparents in providing Christmas presents for their children.

One our Core Values at New City is that we are City Positive. We love cities because we believe God does, and we love Cincinnati in particular. We want to be part of serving it for its healing and flourishing.
If you've been around New City lately, you know we're growing: especially in the area of kids. When we started worship two years ago, we had 2 children regularly in our nursery. Now on a busy Sunday we can have as many as 30!
Jesus is pretty popular in America. You see his name plastered on billboards and bumper stickers. He's regularly invoked in songs both sacred and secular. Even when people have disdain for Christianity or the church, most claim some sort of affection for Jesus. We want to be on Jesus' side. Or maybe more accurately, we want Jesus on our side.
