Worship means, literally, acknowledging the worth of something or someone. It means recognizing and saying that something or someone is worthy of praise. It means celebrating the worth of someone or something far superior to oneself. (N.T. Wright)

When we gather on Sundays, we do so to celebrate and affirm the worth of God. We hope you'll join us THIS Sunday. Here's a preview of this week's gathering:

We are in week 2 of a new series of sermons through the book of Ephesians called I.D.: Who are you REALLY? (Click here for more info on the series)

This week we'll be hearing from Ephesians 1:15-23 and the title of the sermon is The Riches.

As we journey through this series of sermons, set aside some time to read the entire book of Ephesians. Try it once a week or more since the book is only several chapters and can be read easily in one sitting.

The songs we'll be singing together this week are:

In Your Name

The Riches (This is a new one with the text based right out of the passages from Ephesians we'll be in over the next couple months)

Who are you?

How would you answer that question? Sometimes our minds go straight to our vocation: I'm a teacher, I'm a salesperson, I'm a software designer. Or maybe we see our identities primarily in our relationships: I'm a mother, a father, a husband or wife. Or maybe you see your identity in your background: I'm from Texas, I'm an immigrant, I'm the product of a broken family. Or maybe we define ourselves by our accomplishments (or lackthereof): I'm a self-made man, I'm a failure.

All of these things certainly contribute to who we are. But what is foundational? What lies at the bottom? Who are we really?

This is what the apostle Paul begins to address in his epistle to the Ephesians. In the first three chapters of this letter written to a first century church plant, Paul lays out in broad strokes what is most foundationally true about the idenity of someone who is "in Christ." As we learn who we are (and press it down ever deeper into our understanding of things) this begins to shape how we see ourselves, each other, and our calling in the world.

This is what we're going to be looking at during our Sunday morning gatherings in May and June. We hope you'll join us.

Who are you really?

5/13 - Bathed in Blessing (Ephesians 1:1-14)

5/20 - Full of Wonder (Ephesians 1:15-23)

5/27 - Alive in Christ (Ephesians 2:1-10)

6/3 - Members of a New Society (Ephesians 2:11-22)

6/10 - Partakers in a Mystery (Ephesians 3:1-13)

6/17 - Guest Speaker Ray Cannata (Redeemer New Orleans)

6/24 - Changed from the Inside Out (Ephesians 3:14-21)

Worship means, literally, acknowledging the worth of something or someone. It means recognizing and saying that something or someone is worthy of praise. It means celebrating the worth of someone or something far superior to oneself. (N.T. Wright)

When we gather, we do so to celebrate and affirm the worth of God. Here's a preview of this week's gathering:

This weekend we've got some peculiar but great opportunities! The Flying Pig Marathon is happening Sunday morning (some of us are staffing a hydration station @ mile 24) and the course runs right smack dab through the middle of our neighborhood so getting to John Parker school would be problematic.

So...we're gathering Saturday afternoon @ 5pm for worship and a potluck. Bring a dish to share! We're meeting @ Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship's building (where we used to meet in the "old days").

Marc Champagne, from North Cincinnati Community Church is preaching on the Song of Redemption from Revelation 5:1-14. Marc has served on staff at NCCC for 11 years. His original plan was to stay for two and then head overseas. Happily, God has brought many representative from overseas to the Mason area where he lives and he is in the beginning stages of a multi-ethnic church plant. Marc has four kids and one wife. This is an important note as he grew up in Utah.

This week we're invited to the table as we celebrate the Lord's Supper. Jesus invites us to his table, calling us to remember and to proclaim what has has done through the breaking of bread and drinking of the wine. After the message we'll come to His table. To prepare your heart for the Lord's Supper, read 1 Corinthians 11:17-34. We'll let the communion linger on and the feats continue in song and then in a shared meal together.

The songs we'll be singing together this week are:

Worship means, literally, acknowledging the worth of something or someone. It means recognizing and saying that something or someone is worthy of praise. It means celebrating the worth of someone or something far superior to oneself. (N.T. Wright)

When we gather on Sundays, we do so to celebrate and affirm the worth of God. We hope you'll join us THIS Sunday. Here's a preview of this week's gathering:

This is the last week for our Living in the Gap sermon series. This week we'll take a look at Genesis 25:7-11 and take a journey through all that we've learned throughout the sermon series, exploring how to live in the gap between promise and reality.

We also have the joy to celebrate with the sacrament of baptism.

Baptism is a sign and seal of the covenant of grace, a picture of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ, and also a picture of the community that God is forming. You'll see two kinds of baptisms at New City. Adults who place their faith in Christ come to baptism as an expression of their faith and as a sign of their entrance and participation in the covenant community. Children of believing adults are also eligible for baptism. For a child, baptism conveys the grace of being included in God's covenant community and acts as an engagement to be the Lord's. In neither case does baptism save a person. We are saved by grace through faith. Adult baptism reflects back to the work of Christ in bringing one to faith, and infant baptism looks forward to a day when a child can embrace the gospel by faith. In both cases, we rejoice in the saving work of Christ calling out a people for himself.

The songs we'll be singing together this week are:

Come Thou Fount (Here's a version by Matthew Smith)

Old tune [called Nettleton used with Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing] with new lyrics.)

Love Me to the End

10,000 Reasons (We sang this for the first time last week, still new for us so learn it well and be ready to sing out!)

When we gather on Sundays, we do so to celebrate and affirm the worth of God. We hope you'll join us this week. Here's a preview of our upcoming gathering:

This week we are back to our series of sermons on the life of Abraham called Living in the Gap. The text Josh will be preaching from is Genesis 22:1-18. His message is entitled The Horrible Test and he'll be unpacking this seminal text describing Abraham's call to sacrifice his only Son.

As a part of the worship gathering we'll have a time for the "Prayers of the People" where we'll open up our prayer time for anyone to pray. We encourage you to share in this prayer time and ask only that you pray loud enough so that others can hear you and succinctly enough that others may have the opportunity to pray as well.

Our songs for this week are:

All Creatures of Our God and King (This is a St. Francis text, classic hymn. You can get a beautiful brass section version on Anathallo's Hymns album which you can download here).

God Be Merciful to Me (This song comes right out of Psalm 51 and we'll sing it following our prayer of confession as a continuation of our time of repentence. Click here to read all the lyrics.)

What Wondrous Love is This (by Matt Boswell on the album Songs for Lent by New York Hymns.
It is Finished (This is still a new one for us but you can join right in after downloading it free and keeping it on repeat on the iPod.

We hope you'll join us this week. Here's a preview of our upcoming gathering:

Our text this week is Genesis 21:8-21 taking a look at the complicated relationship among Isaac and Ishmael, and Sarah, Hagar, and Abraham. To catch up with more of our Living in the Gap series' sermons about the life of Abraham and to download study/discussion guides: CLICK HERE.

This week we have the joy of celebrating the sacrament of baptism AND sharing together in the Lord's Supper.

Jesus invites us to his table, calling us to remember and to proclaim what has has done through the breaking of bread and drinking of the wine. After the message we'll come to His table. To prepare your heart for the Lord's Supper, read 1 Corinthians 11:17-34.

Giving honor to God is worship. We honor God individually, daily, in word and deed. But there is something special about the people of God gathering TOGETHER for worship (Hebrews 10:24-25). So we hope Sundays at New City are a highlight of your week. Here is some stuff to help you prepare for our worship gathering this Sunday.

Our text this week is Genesis 20 regarding Abraham and Abimelech. catch up with more of our Living in the Gap series' sermons and download study/discussion guides: CLICK HERE.

This week we'll celebrate some folks joining New City as new members.

The songs we'll be singing together include:

Come and Sing (Come and Sing is a great song to begin our worship gathering. Coming from sojourn music, this song calls us to voice what we love. As the lyrics say, "We MUST sing if our hearts have been changed by our God!")

In Feast or Fallow (You can read more about this song here.)

Hallelujah! What a Savior (We've done this great song a few
times so far during this season of Lent and will continue to sing it a few more times. You can get the whole album this came for free: CLICK HERE.)

Come Thou Everlasting Spirit (Utilizing Charles Wesley lyrics Bruce Benedict has provided a new tune for this great hymn.)

Come Thou Fount (This is a great version by Sufjan Stevens that inspires us to vocally driven congregational singing.)

Faithful One (...the Lord is faithful. 2 Thessalonians 3.3)
